Frequently Asked Questions

Where are you located?
Body & Soul Health Solutions is located at 222 Auburn St. Suite 103, Portland, ME 04105. There is plenty of parking.

What kind of information will I need to give the therapist?
Expect to be asked to fill out a brief health history form and to chat briefly with your therapist about your treatment. Your therapist needs to know of any injuries surgeries or illness that you’ve experienced recently or in the past that could have an influence on the type of treatment you receive. It will also help the therapist to know what your expectations are so that she/he can work to best suit your needs. In rare instances some types of massage may be contraindicated.

How much time should I plan on?
If it is your first visit, plan on spending at least an extra 20 minutes beyond your scheduled appointment time so that you have time to do your paperwork and chat with the therapist before your treatment.

Will I be expected to take my clothes off?
Most massage is done with the client completely undressed however clients are encouraged to undress to their own comfort level. The therapist will leave the room to give you privacy while you undress and get on the table and cover yourself with the drapes provided. The client will remain draped during the session both for warmth and for privacy and the therapist will undrape only the area that is being worked on.

What about jewelry and makeup?
It is advisable to remove your jewelry for your massage so that the therapist can have full access to areas without having to work around jewelry. Many massage choices include a facial massage; you can always opt out of that portion if you are wearing make-up.

What kind of lubricant is used?
In most cases, yes, massage oil or cream is applied to make the massage more enjoyable. Substitutions can be made if the client has allergies or is opposed to the use of oil.

What if there are parts of my body that I do not want touched?
This is your massage and the therapist will respect your wishes and will work only on areas that you are comfortable having worked on.

What about private areas?
All massage treatments performed at Body & Soul Health Solutions are non-sexual in nature. By law and by choice, the therapist will not provide any treatment that involves breasts or genitals. Glutei muscles are often the source of pain and tension and the therapist will work on those muscles at your request.

Can I receive Massage while I’m pregnant?
Yes, most women can receive massage while they are pregnant. (See the Pregnancy & Massage section) It is advisable to inform the therapist of your pregnancy when you set up your appointment so that adaptations can be made for your comfort and safety i.e. positioning aids, selection of safe oils.

What method of payment do you accept?
Payment can be made by cash, check, all Major Credit Cards

What if I can’t keep my appointment?
Cancellations must be made at least 24 hrs in advance. Payment will be expected for missed appointments with less than 24 hours notice.

Do I need to do anything during the massage?
Your job is to relax and allow the therapist to do the work. It is important that you let the therapist know immediately if you experience any pain or discomfort during the massage.

How often should I receive Massage?
This is something to talk with your therapist about. It really depends on what is going on with your body. In general though, a healthy person with no current dis-ease or dis-comfort issues will benefit greatly from a maintenance massage once or twice a month.
